Native American Working Families
We work with Native American constituencies across the state to strengthen the wellbeing and cultural continuity of our communities. We reject the colonization of our education, economies and cultures; yet we understand we must transform our world in a practical and effective way. Thus, we engage in issue campaigns and strategy workshops that strengthen our families' wellbeing and our relations to the natural world.
Native American Working Family Campaigns:
Native American Working Family Campaigns:
- Cap Payday loans at 36% interest rates. Native American families deserve to obtain small loans at fair rates. Currently, in the state of New Mexico there are no caps on payday loans. Members of our community have stated that they need access to small loans to pay for things like rent, utility bills, and transportation costs. We have begun a postcard campaign to notify our leaders the need to deal with this issue.
- Building Urban Indian Unity - We hosted the Albuquerque Urban Indian Summit and participants have decided to push for an urban Indian commission that will truly represent our needs. We have begun to develop a structure to organize ourselves and we've named our efforts as the Assembly of Native American Voices.
- Tools for Community Action - we host a variety of fun workshops that build community involvement, clarify strategic goals and ensure the best use of limited resources. Some workshops we offer are power-mapping, strategy development, and 'Understanding our political climate'. We are equipped to consult with Native organizations and groups on issue campaigns to help you succeed.
